The rise of Hua Hin in Thai history came with the opening of the Railway Hotel, built by Prince Purachatra, the Director-General of the State Railways, after the Southern line was completed. It was an elegant Victorian structure on the shore. Not far away, an excellent golf course with meticulously tended greens, awaited golf professionals and amateurs.

The elite of Bangkok society began flocking to Hua Hin, at first to stay in the hotel and later in bungalows they built along the beach. One of them, Princess Chumbhot of Nakorn Sawan, recalls that the first of the holiday residences, Saen Samran House, belonged to Prince Nares, a son of King Chulalongkorn. Not far down the shore was a sizeable compound belonging to the Prince of Chandaburi. Prince Chakrabongse built a complex of bungalows, together with a Victorian-style gazebo on a scenic location near Hua Hin village. This was used in the film “The Devil’s Paradise”, and the Railway Hotel portrayed Phnom Penh’s leading hotel in the hectic days just before that city’s fall in the film “The Killing Fields”.

Princess Chumbhot was a lady-in-waiting to Queen Rambhai Barni and remembers being part of a royal party, which spent several weeks at Prince Nares’ palace in 1926. His Majesty King Prajadhipok was there to plan a summer palace on the beach, to be designed by one of Prince Nares’ sons.

The palace was named Klai Kang Won, which means “Far From Worries”. It was built in Spanish-style-architecture with a facade overlooking the sea. The present monarch, King Bhumipol, often is in residence here, hence the presence of Royal warships normally anchored offshore.

Holistic treatments

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is an ancient form of healthcare that includes minimally-invasive therapies and holistic lifestyle advice based upon a unique understanding of our health as a matter of maintaining internal balance and proper circulation of our “qi”, or our energetic life force.

Acupressure Reflexology

Reflexology is the application of pressure, stretch and movement to the feet and hands to affect corresponding parts of the body. Reflexologists view the feet and hands as a mirror image of the body. By applying this technique the reflexologist can break up patterns of stress in other parts of the body.

It is then relayed to the internal organs to allocate the necessary adjustments in fuel and oxygen, finally a response is fashioned that is sent onto the motor system. This message is fed forward to adjust the body’s tone or overall tension level. If applied properly the tone will reset itself to a lower operating tempo. A lower operating tempo means a lessening of stress and less wear and tear on the body’s systems.

Chakra Balancing

The word Chakra in Sanskrit translates to wheel or disc. They are located in the ethereal body and they express the embodiment of spiritual energy on the physical plane. They absorb and transmit energies to and from the universe. A blockage in the chakra comes from traumatic or negative experiences during a lifetime that have not been released. Negative thoughts or belief patterns will also cause blocks. Many times, one does not even know there are blocks, until the body suddenly demonstrates symptoms. Note that once the body is showing a physical symptom, the chakra has been blocked for some time.

Chi Nei Tsang

Thailand’s unique abdominal massage is a speciality at Chiva-Som. This internal organ massage works directly over the navel and surrounding abdominal areas where stress, tension and negative emotions accumulate.

A course of three treatments is generally recommended in order to allow the therapist to effectively relax the solar plexus and allow energy and function to return to your digestive organs.

Colonic Hydrotherapy

Colonic hydrotherapy was first mentioned in the Dead Sea Scrolls and remains one of the oldest treatments in recorded history for detoxification and cleansing of the body. Considering the nature of the foods we eat and our depleted digestive systems it is not uncommon for the large intestine to be blocked with deposits, leading to poor nutrient absorption, chronic ailments and lowered vitality. A series of colonics coupled with either a properly designed cleansing fast or a healthy, balanced diet can revitalise the body and almost immediately lead to an increase in energy, clarity of mind and better health.

Craniosacral Therapy

A gentle, non- invasive therapy that modifies and corrects tensions in the craniosacral system. CST is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and correcting the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Using a soft touch generally no greater than 5 grams, a practitioner relaxes and releases restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system.

Crystal Massage

Crystal therapy is a form of vibrational medicine. It involves the use of crystals or gemstones to facilitate energetic healing. Each type of crystal or gemstone has its own unique property – colour, shape, and texture that all have special meaning and which assist in the balancing of your body’s energetic field.

This specialty technique can help to positively impact and balance the mind, body, and spirit. Through massage, the body is relaxed and the mind is reinvigorated by the precise placement of pressure on various muscles and pressure points to alleviate stress and release tension.

Dry Skin Brushing

Skin brushing helps move lymph fluid and gives us a jump-start on health. When the pores are not clogged with dead cells and the lymphatic system is cleansed, the body is able to carry out its important function of eliminating toxins and waste material.

Homeopathy has gained a resurgence in Western countries as medical methodologies may not be the best treatment in every case. Homeopathy works on utilising small doses of a substance to stimulate the body’s natural healing response. Working deeply with homeopathics can bring about fundamental changes to the way we think, feel and react and is one of the deepest acting therapies known.

Lithotherapy uses natural energy of the minerals applied to the body, organs or chakras for a certain period of time. The therapist will use the universe energy to enhance the natural healing power of the stone on the affected areas.

Mien-Acupressure is a facial acupressure treatment. It works by tapping into the meridian channels on the face, balancing the facial tissue and cleansing the facial lymphatic vessels. The benefits of Mien-Acupressure are to help emotional detoxification, insomnia, and de-stress.

The art of foot reflexology comes from Traditional Chinese Medicine and gives invaluable information on the health and function of many organs and body systems. At the same time it is a complete treatment, and heaven for tired feet.

A deeply relaxing treatment where the body’s natural healing ability can become more fully activated. The therapist will bring you to a relaxed state by placing hands on key points of the body. The technique of moving energy into the body thoroughly rebalances all the body’s energies.

Seiketsu Shiraku Acupuncture

The concept of “blood letting” a few drops of blood expressed from one or more of the peripheral acupuncture points by quickly lancing the skin, provides therapeutic benefit through the “release” of excess heat or stagnant qi (chi or energy), improving the flow of energy in the Meridian and restoring balance to the system.

Shiatsu is a classic Japanese massage which systematically diagnoses and treats the body’s meridian systems according to Traditional Chinese Medicine and Kanpo systems of medicine. This massage is particularly suited to those who feel their energy just doesn’t flow, who are exhausted and are physically run down.

Shirobhyanga is one of the classical Ayurvedic Rasayana, or rejuvenation therapies. In this treatment your imbalance will be ayurvedically diagnosed and individually selected medicated oil will be used to massage your head. Special attention is given to the marma points (acupressure points) so that deep and penetrating release of blockages will take place and also lymph drainage will occur.
