What is Anusara yoga?
The term "Anusara” (a-nu-sar-a) is of Sanskrit origin (anusāra) and it can mean “flowing with Grace”, “flowing with Nature” or “following your heart” depending on how you want to interpret it.
Based on Hatha yoga, the Anusara style puts emphasis on the philosophical elements of the practice, namely the set of Universal Principles of Alignment that underlie all physical asanas, aiming to help practitioners achieve a deep and spiritual understanding of yoga. Even though these classes target precision and technique, they are still lighthearted, positive and incorporate vinyasa flow, being suitable for all levels due to the slower pace being adopted and encouragement of using props.
Physical benefits include increased stability, strength and physical integration in the poses. From a spiritual point of view, practice helps one become aware of and able to embrace the various facets and polarities of humanity, one’s light and shadow, as well as one’s emotions, impressions and thoughts.
