About the place

Puerto Princesa is the capital of the island province of Palawan. The city has been acclaimed several times as the cleanest and greenest city in the Philippines. With a wide range of attractions ranging from beaches to wildlife reserves, Puerto Princesa is a nature lover's paradise. There is a useful tourist information office at the airport next to the arrival hall which hands out maps and gives information about current events in the city. Bahay Kalipay is an intimate ashram style space where guests, teachers and facilitators make themselves at home. Some of our independent structures include Issa Hut with double bedrooms and the Ma-I common space, our personal Dap-ay “beach,” the Healing Arts hut we call, Pugad ng Diwata, and Kalipay Kafé, which is also open to the general public for breakfast, lunch and dinner by reservation. Accommodations include private couples cabin, family rooms, and individual rooms for our guests, which are almost always retreatants. We have a daily onsite staff of kitchen personnel, guest relations and retreat facilitators, and offer daily housekeeping as requested, and as-needed laundry services. Guests of Bahay Kalipay can take advantage of our gentle detox, deep cleanse program of raw food, yoga classes, workshops, spa services and more. Bahay Kalipay is a humble retreat centre with simple accommodations and facilities suitable for a total mind-body detox. Bahay Kalipay is also a green zone. We have sustainable practices like keeping organic kitchen wastes to fertilize our vegetable garden, using biodegradable soap for dishwashing and laundry, and bathing with a pail of water instead of an overhead shower.

Food

Our dining room can seat 24 comfortably, and has squeezed up to 35 guests, as diners enjoy our creatively-prepared raw, organic, mostly vegan cuisine using quality ingredients sourced from certified local producers. It is adorned with a collection of spiritual art by artists who have visited Bahay Kalipay and have left some of their work to share. The Kafé is also open to guests who are keen to experience Bahay Kalipay and meet some of the residents. However, advanced reservation required. You will have fully Raw vegan dishes. Enjoy our mostly nut-free, low glycemic and high on organic raw food meals designed to aid your detoxification process. Our food is always fresh and made with love. Be open to and surprised by how delicious and fulfilling raw food can be. Savor each bite with an awareness of the many different flavors set to change your perception on food. Food is indeed an energy giving life force. You will be amazed at how your taste preferences change right after your cleanse process and how your body then craves fresher, nutrient rich, live foods.

It developed thousands of years ago in India. It is based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit. The primary focus of Ayurvedic medicine is to promote good health, rather than fight disease. But treatments may be recommended for specific health problems. Abhyanga whole body massage Abhyanga is a gentle, full body cleansing massage that involves touch, warm oils and herbs to improve the overall wellbeing of a person. Utilizing techniques based on traditional Ayurvedic principles of the Doshas – Vata, Pitta, Kapha. Abhyanga Massage addresses imbalances within the body and works to bring a person’s Dosha back into its original state. Duration: 60 or 90 minutes. QI gong taichi class Normally done during sunrise at a beach 5 minutes away from Bahay Kalipay, the Qi Gong/ Tai Chi class may vary according to the participants and their energy levels. This art uses a very drawn out series of forms for posture, movement and breathing. For those looking for a way of calming the mind and improving their breath control might find this to be the perfect form of moving meditation. Follow this link to find out more about Qi Gong. Reiki Humans, being connected to the universal web of life, contribute to the balance (or lack of) which shows up in every aspect of our physical world. A lack of balance is when energy is blocked, withheld, even stagnant Balance is when you return to your innate alignment – a place of love, peace and gratitude. Using Reiki, a beautiful art form of channeling energy around us, we work together to clear, replenish and rejuvenate while enhancing the bodies natural ability to heal. This intuitive bodywork is based on the principle of healing touch infused with loving intention. Sessions are around 75 minutes and are by donation. One on one guided inner dance Communing with your Highest Self – If you seek clarity, release, or peace of mind, Inner Dance will help connect with your inner Knowing, however you might call it: God, Divine Mother, the Universe, or your subconscious. It is experienced as a form of guided deep meditation in motion, where your consciousness expands, allowing the powerful yet gentle energy stream to flow; in your openness to receive, you’ll be given insight, inspiration and balancing. At the end of the session, we will integrate by journaling, discussion and next steps. (Wear comfortable clothing for moving freely.) Suggested Donation: P3,500 for 60-75 minutes.

Serena olsen
Serena, an American from New York, has been living in South East Asia since 2011. A deep connection with a Cherokee shaman bloodline, has pervaded her psyche andphysical space since she was a child. Waves of energetic information andsynchronistic happenings are often present in her daily life and interactions. In 2011, she was even struck by lightning. Exactly one year after her lightning strike, Serena experienced Inner Dance for thefirst time. It was both profound and painful because, for her, it felt like being struck by lightning again, but much stronger. In the days and weeks to follow, sheunderwent physical, emotional, and spiritual healing through her own self-discovery using Inner Dance, yoga, meditation, and mindfulness as tools forexpanding her consciousness and field of perceptual awareness. In the years since, Serena has globally facilitated experiences, workshops, andtrainings for “learning the unlearning” of the mind’s conditioning through InnerDance, Cognitive Resonance, Energy School and other perspective based consciousness teachings. She is a Radiant Child yoga instructor, student of Sat Nam Rasayan, certified in theHANDLE approach, and a WMA Wilderness First Responder. She also spent 4 yearsteaching outdoor and environmental education in the US before moving to Malaysiawhere she taught academic, emotional, and life skills to children of all ages in alearning center focused on holistic, alternative methods for inner transformationand success.

She is an Ashtanga certified yoga teacher who went to India on a yoga pilgrimage and came back after receiving her certificate from the Sivananda Institute in Neyyar Dam, South India. Tza’s Purvakaema center is a science-based, Filipino flavored, appropriate and ecologically sensitive approach to the ancient art of Ayurveda. It is currently situated in Bahay Kalipay Retreat Center in Puerto Prinsesa, Palawan. The program is intended for detox newbies as well as Jills-of-all-trades who would like to try a new way of gentle healing through oil massage. The highlight of the Purvakarma detox cleanse program is the daily abhyanga oil massage. We source our oil from local, organic, and sustainable sources. This oil is near-medicinal in quality! Guaranteed 100% Philippine made, ZERO additives or preservatives. Just pure plant goodness prepared to Tza’s standards. Tza shares her passion for the healing arts by exploring other modalities compatible with an Ayurvedic philosophy. Among these are:*raw food*yoga*reiki*meditation*qi gong

sasha sakshi
After 9 years in the marketing and public relations world, Sasha left her job in Singapore after realizing she could no longer suppress her sensitivities and wanted to live a more authentic life. Being born into a bloodline of sensitives and seers who were afraid of their own gifts, she was constantly taught by her parents to suppress her gifts in fear of the unknown. Since childhood, she grew up in a world of fear, conditions, illusions and rules. Living in this world where she was not allowed to be her true self, Sasha eventually broke down and went into severe depression and had addictions to food to ease the pain she was experiencing. The crisis experience served as a gateway to clarity, leading her to deepen her search for her own healing and spiritual connection to Source. She discovered Hatha yoga in 2011 and was taught under the loving guidance of Master Manoj Thakur, completing her Yoga Instructor Certification Course (YICC) in Singapore. She later went to SVYASA Yoga Bangalore, India to do intensive yoga training where her love for the yoga lineage deepened as she studied more into its history. Her intent in teaching yoga is to teach it at its most authentic and traditional form. Sasha fell in love with Yoga after she experienced deep emotional release and a deep connection to Source through her asana and pranayama practice. Sasha believes that a yoga class is not all about completing fancy postures, but to go deeper in connection with the mind, body and soul with each present breath. Yoga led her into deeper physical and emotional openings and as she continued her search for truth, she found Inner Dance by chance while she was searching for spiritual communities to be a part of online. Her first Inner Dance session in Singapore was facilitated by a visiting teacher, Tony Mendoza who is from Cebu. After realizing what that session had done to her on many different levels, she followed her heart and flew to Bahay Kalipay Retreat Centre in 2014 to attend Inner Dance Energy School with Pi Villaraza and to go on a raw food detox. The entire experience changed her life. Sasha is now an inner dance facilitator and does Transference healing work and incorporates some of these elements into her Yoga sessions. Sasha loves nature and animals deeply. In her free time, she enjoys reading and being by the ocean. She is deeply passionate about yoga, inner dance, ego work and practicing equanimity and compassion in her everyday life. She owes deep gratitude to the Universe and has complete Trust in every moment of magic she is experiencing here on Earth.

Pi villaraza founder
Pi left the corporate world of advertising and marketing to undertake a vision quest around the Philippines where he walked around Mindanao without money for one year, ending up as a hermit on a deserted beach on an island in Northern Palawan. In this place called Kalipay Beach, he came into his personal healing, eating coconuts almost exclusively, which led to his discovery of a powerful vibration that awoke within him. In the years after this, he has brought the healing energy to more than ten thousand people from over 40 nationalities, founding a successful international detox center in Puerto Princesa and an international healing eco-village in Bacungan, Palawan. His work has been reported by the media in Europe, America and all over Asia, where he travels extensively to give advanced energy awareness trainings and to assist in the formation of healing centers in many large cities around Asia. Pi has worked extensively with medical practitioners, schools, government and NGO agencies, corporations and many institutions around the world, in healing and also in progressive education, deep ecology, raw food nutrition, organic food production, community development and sustainable architecture. He is an active environmentalist and is the former Philippine ambassador for the Global Eco-Village Network. His well-received book Conscious Trance is available in bookstores around the Philippines and soon to be found on Amazon.com. He leads the 5-Day Inner Dance Energy School, which gives students a chance to learn by experience and develop their own understanding and techniques of sharing Inner Dance with earnest seekers.

Daniw arrazola

Daniw started on the Inner Food path because of spiritual and emotional reasons. Though it has also healed her of several physical issues in the past, Daniw’s life has shifted many times in the past seven years of running her first center in Manila and eventually taking over the management of one of the first raw food and retreat centers of its kind in Asia. As the co-founder of Bahay Kalipay, she has introduced raw food nutrition and cuisine to many people who have later influenced so many that comprise the raw food support community in the Philippines. She has organized and managed retreats and workshops in Penang, KL, Singapore and various parts of the Philippine Islands. She received her certification in Raw Food Preparation and Detox during a one-month course in Thailand organized by Pure Joy Academy. Daniw established Raw Food Pinoy, an advocacy initiative offering a support system that makes raw food accessible to regular households for personal and planetary health and well-being. She is proudly the mother of two: Sinag, a boy whose diet while in-vitro was 100% raw food and a baby girl, Issa, who came into the world pain-free in an unassisted water birth in November 2013. To witness this amazing, breathtaking miracle of a birth, click here for the video. Daniw also leads transformative modalities, which include Inner dance, Inner food, Inner yoga, Inner birthing and Inner parenting. Currently she leads raw food workshops at Bahay Kalipay, including a 3-Day Home-Cheffing Raw Food Course.

"WOW! what an incredible place! Bahay Kalipay really looked after me from the moment I stepped into the place. The food was incredibly good and nutritious, the yoga classes led by Emily were incredibly well executed and very relaxing. Emily has a great presence, she is full of life and enthusiasm. This is really projected through her practice. Overall, my stay at the BK centre was very enjoyable and I would reccomend it to anyone." - From TripAdvisor

    "Coming Home"
"I have been to BK a couple of times. I made a promise to give myself this gift of pause and silence at least twice a year. But in 2015 I got swallowed by deadlines and things happening all at once. I was not able to keep my promise to myself. The last time I was in BK was Jan 2015. February 2016 came and I had another US trip scheduled. I knew I needed to come to BK to recharge before taking on another gargantuan task. So I booked a ticket. My daughters 16th birthday was coming soon too. So I offered her the chance to join me. She is a high achiever and quite stressed for her age. In bringing her to BK, I shared with her the "secret of my longevity" in a very high paced competitive role. As soon as we landed we visited the Spring Valley Cleansing Center to ensure we have colonics. An important part of my detox repertoire, when I feel the toxins are flushed from my body. This allows for all the BK green goodness of raw food to be absorbed well. We loved the time together. She "discovered" the joy of raw food, the delicious raw desserts, the comforts of simplicity, coconuts and silence. We did our first mother-daughter yoga with the very attentive Yoga Teacher Emily Nick. We were fortunate to catch her as she was on the tail end of her stint at BK and was packed to continue her travel around the world. We loved her energy, she made us feel welcomed, home. When morning yoga sessions ended, she obliged us on a 1:2 Yoga instruction patiently talking my daughter through the poses. What would alleviate stress, how to breathe right. She was not all about technique, she was also about meeting our individual needs with yoga. When she learned my daughter loved cooking, she went out of her way to make arrangements for us to observe and help in the food preparation. Very precious hands on experience. Emily sure made this BK trip memorable for us. Emily and her warmth is what makes BK home, not just a hotel/resort. That is why a trip to BK is not just a vacation, but an experience." - From TripAdvisor

    "Nice yoga retreat!"
"Excellent experience! I was there for the Yoga wellness retreat for 4 days. I am not a yoga pro, therefore I want to improve and be able to have a basic knowledge to start seriously once back home. Emily Nick was my teacher and I only have words of gratitude. Since the very first moment she took the time (even with pen and notebook) and with great interest, asking me and my friend what our needs and expectations were during our stay. She has a lot of empathy, always giving alternate options for those who couldn't make it, and finding extra time after class to teach us again the positions we needed. A wonderful yoga teacher and woman. The workshops were really interesting, the location is beautiful, and the food is amazing. We had a bit of digestion problems the 1st day as you need a bit of time to get used to raw food. But on the 3 day you felt really good. Inner dance workshop was incredible and totally unexpected. The volunteers that work there are really heart driven, and have a good vibe. I wish I could have stayed longer. The Philipino staff is amazing with such a nice aura. So my tip is to stay a minimum of 1 week! I will be definitely coming back as soon as I can!" - From TripAdvisor

    "Total zen!!"
"If you're looking for a place to get away from the world, then this is it! I only had 3 days but I left leaving refreshed and refuelled to take on the world! The morning and afternoon yoga classes are fab and the standard of teachers is faultless! The food is unbelievably good!! There are some very interesting workshops on green smoothies and Inner Dance also! My only downside was that I had to party the day trip on the Tuesday as it was only included in 5 day plans! Had I not went, there was no program of classes or workshops for the day as everyone goes! " - From TripAdvisor

    "A Life Retreat"
"I have to admit that I was a bit nervous before I went to BK. What to expect? What would it be like to practice yoga every morning at 7AM? How would the raw food be? What kind of people would I meet? And how would it feel to work on myself again after feeling 'separated' from myself for almost a year? All my questions didn't matter any more as soon as I stepped into the grounds of Bahay Kalipay. I immediately knew I was gonna love it here! And so I did... A stay at BK, no matter if it's a week or a month, is so much more then a Yoga Wellness Retreat. It's a place to charge, to change, to share, to let go, to enjoy, to relax. And if you want it's the best place to work on yourself... Every day was filled with a perfect mixture of yoga, meditation, Inner Dance sessions, a lot of different workshops and inspiring talks with the people around me (guests, volunteers, staff). It's so cool that the program very much depends on which volunteers and residents are staying at the centre: every visit can be very different. And then the food: it was sooo good! All meals could easily be served in a 4* restaurant. Super fresh, tasty, colourful and made with a lot of love. Yummie! I was quite annoyed by the fact that I couldn't eat much the first three days, because I felt so full all the time (due to my body which was detoxing) haha. Despite of everything the centre offered, in the end it was the people that made my stay into something very special. The volunteers, residents and local staff were all so warm and welcoming. I loved to hang out with them, to have good talks or just to give each other a hug once in a while. Surprising how quick and strong we all bonded. It was a relief to be with like-minded people for a week. Thank you all so much <3! I can't wait to go back in a couple of months... (And yes, Bahay Kalipay is just as pretty as the pictures tell you!)" - From TripAdvisor

"A Place of Letting Go and Being In the Now"
"Some people break down and find themselves confined in a hospital. I have learned that is not necessary of you listen to your body. Since landing in BK over a year ago, I have promised myself to find time just to be, to heal. I realized that healing is not a one time thing. It is a process we take for as long as we need. So BK is my home to heal, to be in the moment. In BK, I found the beauty of sacred simplicity. The 7 day detox is a great way to start any year as the body loses the toxicity it also lets all the emotional baggages and mental stress go. It always makes me lighter literally and figuratively after. Yes, we can live comfortably in a hut. Yes we can subsist on raw food, coconuts and not be hungry. Yes, we can just sit, watch the sunrise, take a walk, and really, really live. Yes, in BK we can collide with the world as different people, culture, lands there, and this is part of the richness that is BK. We are never the same after BK. Regardless of how many times you go, over and over again." - From TripAdvisor
