Highlights

Daily yoga and meditation
3 healthy and hearty vegan meals
Detox and Relax from the stress of modern life

Course description

Our retreats are based on Integral Yoga & Meditation, Community, Creativity, Healthy & Delicious Vegan Food, and Connection with Nature. Our course program includes daily classes, health & wellness, Dharma talks, community activities, and free time. You will learn and be inspired by our experienced team of 5 international yoga and meditation instructors. We take a holistic approach to health through the body, heart, and mind, offering hands-on adjustments and individual support for all levels of experience. We promote and encourage setting up a daily practice of yoga and meditation. Through our meditation practice, we learn to relax back into the center of our being through stillness, strengthening our basic awareness, and releasing the heaviness of the past. We also teach the importance of mindfulness by cultivating awareness throughout the whole day. We observe a Digital Detox as well as Silent Mornings throughout the course. This encourages us to listen more deeply to life and live in the present moment. The Daily Schedule is the foundation of our program and sets the rhythm for the retreat. We have developed our schedule over years of experience and are proud to offer an inspiring learning program. Please view the details in the « Planning » tab. Morning Practice consists of 90 minutes of yoga asana and 30 minutes sitting meditation. Evening Practice consists of 20 minutes of yoga and pranayama and 30 minutes sitting meditation. Workshops and Tours are optional and available for an additional fee. Free Time is time to relax, integrate and explore. It is also possible to take out bikes, explore the village, sit by the lounge pool, play games, read a book or just lay in a hammock.

About the place

During this yoga retreat, you'll have a large choice of different types of accommodation at Hariharalaya, they're all built using natural materials in a traditional way. All of our spaces are clean, comfortable, and cool and come equipped with mosquito nets, bedding, towels, and fans. We have a total of five dorms, seven private rooms, and eleven bamboo retreat huts spread out over six acres of land and forest. There are seven shared modern bathrooms with flushing toilets. All of our land is connected by beautifully landscaped paths and gardens, which are well lit at night.

Food

Food is the cycle of life - this life that has been moving, creating, and dancing for vast periods of time and timelessness. Food is our way of participating in this great event, with respect, love, joy, and creativity. We honor the life that sustains us - eating local, seasonal, simple, vegan, organic, colorful, and delicious food. Meals are also a time for our community to gather and share in a moment of awareness. Before each meal, we all come together in a circle and our founder, Joel, reads a poem by Hafiz (16th-century Sufi mystic poet), followed by a group OM and then announcements. Our breakfasts always include fresh fruit - like mango, pineapple, watermelon, banana; a main course - ranging from scrambled tofu, garlic mashed sweet potato, Khmer rice porridge, vegan waffle bar, and more; and also a smoothie of the day - mango carrot, passion fruit banana, peanut butter banana, watermelon juice, etc. Our lunches and dinner consist of a main course, brown rice, and a fresh salad. Meals range from Khmer curries, rice noodle pasta, Mexican beans, hummus, Indian Dahl and curries, pumpkin soup, and much more. During our Saturday meditation intensives. we eat simple meals - rice gruel and steamed veggies - in order to keep the body-mind calm and peaceful. We also offer a wide selection of local Cambodian snacks and homemade treats in between mealtimes. Snacks include bags of peanuts, raisins, trail mix, banana chips, and sweet potato chips. Freshly baked homemade cakes and sweet bread, and locally made vegan coconut ice cream. We must also remember that we are not only nourished by the food we put in our body, but also by the subtle currents of nature and life - the elements, the sun and moon, our breath, our creativity, and joy. The good news is that you can continue to eating with consciousness once you leave Hariharalaya! Now available is the second edition of our own cookbook - Hariharalaya. Cooking with Consciousness. With over 90 of our favorite recipes including high-quality color photos, it is the perfect addition to your home kitchen!

Instructors

Joel
Dancer, Yogi, Linguist, Chef, Poet, Jeweler, Classical Musician and Lover of Life… Joel has drowned himself in the ocean of Yoga and never came back. He was first initiated in a traditional Kriya Yoga path in 2000, which sparked a period of 10 years of intensive Sadhana, Self inquiry and Self discovery. Joel met his gurus, Sri Karunamayi, Sri Shivabalayogi and Sri Amritanandamayi Ma around 2005 and spent years studying Integral Yoga and absorbing the wisdom of Being from the presence of many great saints, sages and enlightened masters. Since 2010 Joel has dedicated his time and energy to maintaining a sacred space to explore and experience this great Joy and Freedom of Awakening through Integral Yoga, conscious living, community and creativity. Joel advocates simple and healthy living, coming back into harmony with the natural cycles of Life, and integrating the Body, Heart and Mind as a conscious wholeness. He has great respect for traditional culture and integrated living, which is one of the reasons that he set up his center for Integral Yoga and Awakening in Siem Reap, Cambodia near the ancient temples of Angkor. Joel is present and teaching during almost all of the retreats and is available for questions. One book of dharma talks, The Foundations of Stillness, was published in 2013. There are currently two more books of talks from early 2014, Seeds of Dharma, which will be released later this year.

Bianca is the Head Yoga teacher at Hariharalaya. She holds a Master’s Degree in Education and is a Yoga Alliance certified Yoga Instructor with over 1000 hours of study and formal training in a variety of Yoga disciplines, Ayurveda and healing modalities. She has been teaching yoga since 2011 between Fort Lauderdale, Florida and the last two summers at a luxury resort in Bali, Indonesia. At Hariharalaya, she teaches daily yoga classes, leads workshops, private lessons and also offers Thai Yoga Bodywork Sessions.Bianca embarked upon her yoga journey 8 years ago, and began a consistent dedicated practice in the summer of 2009. Initially the physical and mental challenge of yoga classes motivated her, but as she persevered she discovered the true yoga was much deeper than a physical and mental exercise. The integration of asana (postures), pranayama (breath techniques) and meditation proved to be healing from the inside out.

There aren't many words needed...But if I had to choose... Stillness. Self. Silence. Strength. Spend a week at this place and discover a little bit of what the outside world pushes us to ignore. I couldn't have asked for more. Thank you <3 From Google Reviews

  • " Life changing experience"
This was my first yoga and meditation retreat. I had began dipping my toe in the spirituality realm but going on this retreat really clicked things into place for me and since returning home has had a profound effect on my life. The teachers are super as they explain everything very clearly and help you with your postures. The retreat itself is incredibly calming and beautiful and the food is fantastic (all vegan - very tasty and made fresh everyday). I won't say much more as you have to experience it for yourself and sometimes it is good to go without knowing too much of what awaits you. I have to say by the end of the retreat I felt the most relaxed I have felt in a long time. I highly recommend. From Tripadvisor

Return trip and I will return again! Hats off to the vibrant, caring, supportive and talented team at Hariharilaya. My second visit was as wonderful, if not more so than my first, providing the perfect space for tranquility, personal exploration, healthy eating and a sense of freedom and playfulness left behind in our busy, crazy world. Inhabited by likeminded visitors, a community quickly develops and interacts in a way we can only hope to replicate when returning to our daily life. There is something for everyone or nothing at all if that is your need. If you have a desire to renew, this is where you should be looking. From Tripadvisor

My experience at Hariharalaya has been amazing. I can only think of positive things to say. From the beginning on I felt very welcome. The teachers are really good and if you have any questions, they're more than happy to help you. They are all so inspiring and they made me feel so aware of my body. The beautiful nature, the daily routine and practice, the community feeling and the delicious food made me feel so at home. They created a great 6 day program. When I first came I saw yoga as a physical practice, but I found out it's so much more. Besides, I learned so much about myself and we lived in the moment, which made me feel so happy and free. I will definitely come back in the future. From Tripadvisor

I really didn't know what to expect at first, first being quite a heavy meat eater and secondly almost haven't done yoga before. But the genuine care and constant guidance from the instructors there made my experience so wonderful and easy to nudge into. Magical moments happen daily in this place and if you're someone looking for more balance in your life, I would say just go for it 🙂 From Tripadvisor

Hariharalaya was an amazing experience, and I think that besides spending a fun and peaceful week, everyone will gain something from there time here. Whether it be deepening your yoga or spiritual practice, learning or experiencing a new skill, or finding out more about yourself and your life. The environment and people really help you to turn inward and look deeply at yourself and your life, and I am sure you will also make some great new friends. Highly recommend it!! From Tripadvisor
