Course description

During the retreat, our aim is to inform you about methods for meditation encompassing, but not limited to, the unity of consciousness and Advaita Vedanta, thus leading to self-discovery of the Spiritual Heart. The system of meditation will focus on the methods developed by Ramana Maharshi, that of Atma vicara, or more popularly known as the inquiry “Who Am I?”, as well as other complementary meditations and prayers. We aim to inform you about the practical and theoretical aspects of this methodology, allowing ample opportunities to directly put it into practice. In doing so, we hope that you will understand the underlying principles and value the purpose of meditation, thus reaping immediate benefits, and coming to love meditation as an essential part of your life. You will learn some direct methods to pacify your mind and even transcend it. When your mind is truly still and without any thoughts, and you transcend your ego, and you arrive at a place where you have no name, no social status, no relationships, no past, no future, no country, no spiritual attainment, and no lack of spiritual attainment. It is simply a presence of being. If a movement or a thought appears in this stillness, it is enveloped into the stillness, thus becoming stillness itself. It is as if your life becomes full and saturated with this peace and sacredness. You will also learn a way which comprises a vision, a spiritual understanding and a method of transforming yourselves. We hope most of you will learn to love meditation as a means for discovering Divine Reality, otherwise referred to as God, although these methods are beyond any specific ideas of religion or any theoretical concepts about God. We hope most of you will have some peak experiences about Supreme Reality, some special states of consciousness about cosmic love, eternity or the unity of everything, which can be evoked afterward in daily life. This will help you in your quest to understand the reason for your existence. Our aim is for you to realize the importance of fully incorporating the Spiritual Heart in your life, beyond concepts, theory, and philosophy. The path to the Spiritual Heart journeys through your soul, and therefore, an opening and intimacy of the soul will naturally occur from this. During this retreat, we will have the chance to venture deeper than the emotional psychic level of the Heart, into the Divine Reality which represents the most profound aspect of the Spiritual Heart. Ultimately, you will be compelled to love at a level which your ego usually prevents you from accessing through blockages such as attachments, ignorance, and other negative emotions, thoughts, and beliefs. To access this level of universal love, the obstacles challenging your personality and your ego must be transcended through accessing the Spiritual Heart. Our ultimate goal is for you to gain a profound understanding of the real nature of your existence and the nature of manifestation of Life and the Universe. More specifically, you will eventually achieve a coherent vision of Divine Unity, Advaita, and nonduality, which is the main revolutionary power, the main transforming idea of Jnana Yoga, and Advaita Vedanta, Taoism, Dzogchen, and Zen.

Sahajananda
Sahajananda, the main founder of Hridaya Yoga, is a meditation and hatha yoga teacher with over 30 years of experience. His message conveys the non-dual tantric teachings. An engineer in electronics by education, Sahajananda started practicing yoga and meditation in 1981, the year in which yoga was banned in Communist Romania. This fact only brought him more depth, determination, and spiritual aspiration. At age 14, the revelation of true Love came when he first met Simona. This sparked the first inspirations regarding the core message of Hridaya. Her presence was both an inspiration and a guide for what sacredness and wonderment of the world mean. Before knowing any formal meditation method, they spent many hours together contemplating the sea, the sky, and the flowers. Simona continued a very similar journey and, much later, contributed to the creation of the Hridaya Yoga vision. Sahajananda’s yoga master was Grieg, an adept of tantra yoga. In 1989, after the fall of the Communist regime in Romania, thousands of people expressed their interest in Eastern spirituality and yoga. In response to their aspirations, a yoga school was created, the Movement for Spiritual Integration into the Absolute (MISA, per its initials in Romanian). In addition to being a yoga teacher, Sahajananda was the director of the Sofia Publishing House and for many years, he coordinated three monthly magazines on the topics of yoga, mysteries, and tantra. Sahajananda also served as vice-president of MISA, supporting his teacher and playing an important role in developing the yoga school. He witnessed MISA’s ascension but also its limitations – the emphasis on power, sexuality, etc. So, together with a group of other yoga teachers, Sahajananda left MISA in 2006. Later in 2006, at the invitation of his good friend and yoga colleague Swami Vivekananda (the founder of Agama Yoga), he started giving monthly silent meditation retreats in Koh Phangan, Thailand. In 2011, Sahajananda, together with Antoaneta, designed the Hridaya Teacher Training Course. The course was created for spiritual aspirants who want to deepen their meditation and yoga practice and share the Hridaya message of Self-awareness. In 2012, Sahajananda, helped by Antoaneta, Claudiu, Nicholas, and many other Hridaya teachers created the headquarters of the Hridaya Yoga School in Mazunte, Mexico. Stages in His Spiritual Journey In addition to classical yoga and meditation, in the mid-1990s, Sahajananda started systematically practicing lucid dreaming and astral projection. His aspiration was to contact the sacred realm of Shambala and serve the world. It was a period of ecstatic experiences, visions, and revelations. He shared his insights and methods in a series of 8-week workshops on Spiritual Techniques and Parapsychology. The efficiency of this program made the Ecological University in Bucharest offer him the position of Professor of Parapsychology. Later, he understood that even this approach (the exploration of the subtle worlds) still involved the mind and, therefore, is often restricted by personal filters and limitations. He understood that “Silence is the language God speaks and anything else is a bad translation,” as Thomas Keating said. Thus, he started doing solitary meditation retreats in caves in the Carpathian Mountains. During these times of solitude, Sahajananda was humbled and charmed by the directness of Self-enquiry, the method recommended by Ramana Maharshi.I n one of these retreats, the mind stopped functioning in its ordinary way and a deeper and wider sense of existence was revealed – an understanding that shone blissfully for days and nights, bringing the evidence of eternity. This event brought him a direct understanding of Oneness so vivid and obvious that for a few years he could hardly approach any kind of meditation or spiritual practice other than Self-enquiry. Additional solitary retreats brought a more obvious understanding that this message can and should be transmitted, but it requires the dedication, discipline, and surrender of a silent retreat.

I came back to do 3 x 10 day silent meditation retreats, Modul 2 and 2 dark room retreats (3 and 10 days). I hardly meditated in my life before that and during the first silent retreat I learnt many techniques how to quieten my mind and be able to go deeper in meditation. It hwlped me a lot to build a strong connection with my heart and to open up. This school is a gem and the location on the Pacific Ocean does the rest. Perfect for beginners as well as spiritually advanced beings. From Retreat Guru Page

    "Laid Back"
A wonderful supportive environment, very laid back, with quite basic facilities, but it also has everything you need. The courses are very reasonably priced, and are excellently taught, with all the teachers and leaders very knowledgeable and clearly practising and living what they were teaching. It was very inspiring. I will be back! - TripAdvisor Review

    "Highly Transformational"
I participated in a 3 day silent retreat and found it so inspiring, it has given me a deeper meditation practice just in these 3 days and found even in this short time it was highly transformational. I am quite experienced already in meditation but loved the way this course is suitable for all and not aimed at just beginners / just advanced but catered well for all needs. In addition to the techniques used being outstanding and extremely helpful in aiding me to go deeper ... I was also sick during the course and was looked after so well by the centre. Highly recommend. - TripAdvisor Review

  • "A place you may not want to leave anymore ;-)"
This place is awesome! If you want to learn more about yoga, meditation and yourself, this is the right place! I did the Module 1 and decided to attend the 3 days Silence Retreat spontaneously. It was definitely worth it! All in all, it was a great experience and it changed my life in a positive aspect! Short summary: Great teachers, community and staff. Food (vegan) was awesome! If I could give 10 stars, I would! 🙂 - TripAdvisor Review
