Vinyasa flow style asana training
Daily kirtan and meditation
Holistic living in a spiritual community

Course description

At the Krishna Village, we are aiming to revive and teach yoga in its wholeness, so you can BE a yogi, rather than just DO some yoga. Our Yoga Teacher Training is, therefore, a full immersion program that spans 6 weeks and will allow you to experience yogic living in its entirety. From daily morning yoga to seva in our organic gardens, from philosophy classes to healthy food preparation, from Kirtan singing to mantra meditation you will live and breathe yoga while being immersed in a kind, loving and supportive community. You will not only learn all required practices to become a fully accredited yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance but will also gain teaching practice with real students through our retreat centre - first co-teaching with fellow trainees and then bit by bit growing into teaching your own classes.

About the place

Nestled in the foothills of Mount Warning, in the heart of the Northern Rivers of New South Wales, the Hare Krishna farm “New Govardhana” is a 1000 acre property with orchards, certified organic veggie gardens, cows, horses, streams and swimming holes in abundance. The Krishna Village can host up to 70 people in a combination of rooms, dorms and camping spots. There are usually around 30 full time volunteers who work in our organic gardens and maintain the grounds, 15-25 retreat guests or Karma Yogis and up to 20 yoga teacher trainees. All rooms have shared amenities. The amenities block includes showers, toilets and a coin operated laundry (byo laundry powder). Common areas include the kitchen & campfire area (the heart of the Krishna Village), the reading room (with Internet hotspot) and the yoga hall where we gather for classes.

Food

The Krishna Farm has been producing organic veggies since the 1980s and has, therefore, fantastic conditions to grow excellent produce. We grow as much of our own food as we can and otherwise buy locally wherever possible. We provide 3 delicious vegetarian meals every day, with lunches taking place at the Krishna Village community kitchen, and breakfast and dinners - mostly Indian style - served at the prasadam hall, next to the temple. All our food is prasadam - sacred food prepared in a consciousness of loving service. Like in other cultures, we offer our food before we eat to say Grace and thank the Divine for the sun, the rain, and all the visible and invisible blessings necessary to co-create a delicious meal. Feel free to sing along with us, or just listen and enjoy...

The 200 hr teacher training has really been a positive challenge for me - I’ve connected to myself and others in brand new ways, opened my heart even more and have found a family in the YTT group. Being in a supported community has allowed me to become who I am now compared to whoI arrived on day one - the personal growth is incredible. From Krishna Village Testimonials Page

The 200hr YTT is a massive bargain – at less than $70 USD/day you get full immersion into yogic studies, 3 meals a day, and dorm room accommodations. Keep in mind, the setting is rustic and you’ll spend most of your time living in nature – so if you can’t handle getting a little dirt under your fingernails then this might not be the school for you. The caliber of the training was first rate – you’ll go far beyond asana and learn what it means truly live as a yogi. I’ll admit that I was a bit nervous about the Hare Krishna aspect but besides eating 2 meals a day at the temple up the hill – it’s your choice in how fully you participate in the philosophy. The daily kirtan (chanting) actually became one of my favorite parts of the robust training schedule. Also – a HUGE bonus of choosing the Krishna Village YTT is the opportunity to start co-teaching classes to REAL guests. If you’re serious about teaching – this program gives you a leg up on the competition having real world hours under your belt. From Krishna Village Testimonials Page

    "Enlightening"
I spent 2 weeks as a volunteer at Krishna Village in January 2018 and what an incredible, transformative and enlightening experience I shared with a conscious community. I would highly recommend this stay to anyone of all ages and backgrounds who is seeking to be grounded and healed, re-connect with nature, and share memories with incredible people. Prior my arrival, I let go of all expectations which helped me cultivate the best experience. Do not expect a luxurious retreat - this village is humble and does their best to keep up with the demands of a variety of people; basic necessities are met in a friendly manner. The days are full of activities which are not compulsory so you have complete freedom to practice yoga, join in on kirtan and workshops, and attend classes at the temple at your discretion. Most times I found it difficult to attend every class as you find yourself relaxing by the river, cuddling a cow or having a conversation for hours on end. There is plenty of options so you will not be bored! As a volunteer, my daily schedule followed as: 5AM - Yoga // 6:15AM - Commence work (garden, temple, kitchen, cleaning, maintenance) // 8:15AM - Breakfast // 9:15AM - Back to work // 12:15PM - Finish work // 12:30PM - Kirtan // 1PM - Workshop // 2PM Lunch // 4:15PM - Yoga // 6PM - Dinner // 7PM - Occasional classes and activities // 9PM - Bedtime! A few suggestions for management - Provide guests and volunteers with tea and coffee, a simple gesture of sharing - Advise female guests and volunteers to pack conservative clothing for visiting the Hare Krishna temple (where breakfast and dinner is served daily). As I packed clothes predominately for yoga / farm work in Summer I struggled to cover up some skin, however there is a "WWOOF" shed full of second hand clothing which can occasionally help you out - More emphasis on sustainable and ecological practices, perhaps workshops on DIY projects and everyday actions to help the environment Overall, my experience here was beyond my expectations and I wish I had more time to stay. I planned to stay here prior my trip to India and feel as this was a perfect introduction to a yogic lifestyle! I will be revisiting very soon and can't wait to continue watching this place evolve 🙂 Thank you Krishna Village for holding a special place in my heart! Google Review

    "A place of healing"
I spent two weeks as a retreat guest/karma yogi here. Even though my time here was quite short I gained so much from the experience. I had been on a long journey of healing which culminated to a close in the two weeks I spent here. It was confronting, intense. And at times overwhelming. I went through a range of feelings, highs and lows, emotional purging but through it all I stuck with it and was able to get what I needed from my stay there, even though I didn’t know exactly what that was at the time. I am now on the road of transforming my life in a positive way, on an upward trajectory, going from strength to strength. Krishna Village provided me with an open and safe environment to complete my healing. I am filled with gratitude for what I was given. The one thing through it all I remained was open, even when my attitude wasn’t positive I still remained open to the experience, I think that was ultimately what made me able to accept what it was I needed. I connected with like minded people, some friendships that will last a lifetime, learnt and taught together, shared stories, accepted and gave support. I connected with animals (cows especially) and nature too, something that I had been disconnected from for a very long time. Krishna Village has so much to offer as long as you are open to receiving it. Definitely a place I would recommend visiting for whatever your needs are. Google Review

    "Loved it!"
Love the place and it's changed the course of my life in the most beautiful way, and I know it has for many others too. There's a wonderful sense of community here which Id love to see making its way into the rest of the world. I'd describe it as a spiritual community more so than a retreat! It's an incredible space to learn and grow, to share and laugh and love. Went for my yoga teacher training in mid-2016. Went back for a massage course May 2017 and stayed for a few extra weeks as I just couldn't bring myself to say goodbye to the souls I met there! Would love to see more protein & less carbs in most meals please. Would also love to see stronger, more advanced and challenging yoga classes each day. The place is constantly evolving, growing and adapting, and that's part of its charm. Thanks for everything <3 - Google Review
