About the place

Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is a coastal town in Talamanca in Limón Province in southeastern Costa Rica, known simply as Puerto Viejo to locals. It is a popular tourist destination. It is known in the surfing community for the biggest and most powerful wave in Costa Rica, known as Salsa Brava. It is also home to beautiful beaches, such as Playa Chiquita, Playa Negra, and Punta Uva, which are a few of Costa Rica's most spectacular beaches which can be found between Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo. Manzanillo is a popular location for kayaking and is 13 km (8 mi) south along the beach. Choose from a stay in one of our ten Caribbean style casitas nestled in the tropical gardens, the guest house with it’s expansive terrace and jungle view or VIP accommodation in a fully equipped sea view house. To fully experience the beauty and magic of the rainforest there are no TVs in the rooms and wifi is available at the restaurant and lounge. All accommodations have fans and screened ventilation allowing for fresh air and Caribbean breezes around the clock. Our sanctuary is set in a 250 acre Costa Rican Rainforest, yet provides you with the comfort and convenience of a modern resort. It comprises a restaurant, a lounge, a spa, three types of accommodations as well as a Gazebo and Jacuzzi. Each of these elements is integrated harmoniously into the Rainforest and is designed to reinforce your connection to nature.

Food

Sitting in the mountain overlooking the Rainforest and Caribbean Sea below, our open-air restaurant provides a dramatic and unique dining experience. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served buffet style with selections ranging from Caribbean fusion, to Mediterranean to Asian to Central American. Most of our cuisine is vegetarian and chicken and fish delicacies are available whenever you choose. Seafood is drawn daily from sea, fruit is purchased from local farmers or picked on site. Organic products are the first choice ingredients.

Once you get to Limon, please follow directions to Cahuita and Puerto Viejo. Samasati is 30 miles South of Limón, in the direction of Puerto Viejo. It is located in the Hone Creek village(‘s) area. About five miles after passing the Cahuita National Park’s entrance, you’ll find a street in your right hand side, just between the Gas Station of Hone Creek and the supermarket “Pali”. Samasati’s entrance’s gate is about 1/2 mile inland from the main road. Samasati’s restaurant and accommodations are located 1 mile uphill from the entrance(’s) gate. There is a reception(’s) area at the entrance gate. Here you will find out how to proceed with your 4×4 vehicle, or where to park your car (no fee) and wait for a Samasati vehicle if your vehicle is not a 4X4. "RAINFOREST ZEN-CATION"
"Amazing stay at Samasati! The jungle is beautiful and morning yoga was perfect. The food is delicious and there is reliable wifi when you need to check in with folks back home. The staff is so kind and accommodating. I bought the "signature package" and had a wonderful week by myself, spending my mornings and evenings relaxing at Samasati and my afternoons biking to the beach and eating chocolate" - From TripAdvisor

    "Very relaxing and peaceful"
"Samasati is a great place to become close with nature, unwind, relax and clear your mind. I spent there 5 days which was not enough! We stayed in bungalow 5 - the views are amazing there and overall the housing is clean and nice. People who are afraid of any bugs and reptiles should not go to jungle, but if you are comfortable with it - that's the place to be. Pros: you live in the middle of a jungle, no windows, just mosquito nets which gives you 100% fresh air 24/7, healthy tasty food, yoga classes that are amazing. Also you can get massages (one was included in our package), We had jessie, she was amazing. Cons - far from the airport, mandatory flashlight so you won't step on anyone including snakes, shuttle goes only at 10am and picks you up at 3pm, it drops you at porto viejo. if you want to go to a nice beach - you should take bicycles from there or take another taxi. If you want to go other times from the resort to town - taxi is 10$ one way which is kind of expensive. There is no pool at the resort, but there is a nice Jacuzzi. The weather on Caribbean side is not as nice as on pacific (more rains) Overall it was a very relaxing and nice stay." - From TripAdvisor

    "Ideal place for mindfulness retreat"
"Be prepared to be off the grid! The property does have lights out at 10pm so you must be back on the property beforehand as there is no transport from the street afterwards. Bring a flash light as it can get pretty dark on the walk from dinner. I love the love the property. Gorgeous nature walks, great yoga schedule and the synchrony with nature is beyond what I expected. We slept in a bungalow. At first it was a bit uncomfortable as there is only a thin screen between us and the jungle. It literally felt like I was sleeping outside. After the first night, the soothing sounds of the jungle became my clock, singing me to sleep and waking me up before sun set for meditation. While the property is a bit out of the way, it's not far from town and transport can easily be arranged. I do wish I would have had at least one night to enjoy the night life. If night life is an interest, this may not be the spot for you." - From TripAdvisor

    "Great place to unwind"
"Great place for a retreat, relax and unwind. I spent few days during the holidays there. The food is just beyond awesome. Kudos to the Chef there. They also have daily shuttle to go to the beach which I took advantage of everyday. If only I can have that kind of food in my normal life I'll probably live over 100 years :))" - From TripAdvisor
