About the place

Shreyas Retreat is situated on the outskirts of Bangalore near Nelamangala. There are many historical and spiritual sites in the surrounding areas. The stress of urban living lives its imprint on each of us, the chaotic noise makes it difficult for us to hear our inner voice; at Shreyas we give you an oasis of calm making it easier to relax and connect with your true self. Food

The meals during Silent retreat are also specially customized and prepared with ingredients that are known to calm the mind and are easy to digest. The ingredients for the meals are freshly hand-picked from our organic vegetable and herb gardens, and all preparations are light and nutritious. According to Ayurveda, self-imposed mouna (silent) during eating greatly aids digestion and improves overall health.

By Air: Flights to Bangalore are available from the US, Europe and from all major Indian cities. The newly opened Bengaluru International Airport is one hour away from Shreyas and is a beautiful drive through the countryside; the road by-passes the Bangalore and its chaotic traffic. Airlines: Air France, British Airways, Gulf Air, Jetstar Asia Airways, KLM, Lufthansa, Malaysian Airlines, Royal Nepal Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Emirates & Sri Lankan Airlines and others. Balasundar Iyer | Head – Yoga & Spiritual / Holistic Counseling / Meditation
Balasundar comes from an ashram background. He has spent the last 18 years learning, practicing and teaching Yoga and Meditation under many adepts and masters. He has conducted classes, courses, retreats and workshops in Yoga and Meditation for students, young adults, families and corporate sector. He has taught Yoga at many local and international schools in Bangalore and Hyderabad. He designs and facilitates instructional Hatha Yoga, Pranayama, Yoga Nidra, Trataka and Meditation sessions. He is also trained to counsel the guests in adopting appropriate lifestyle changes. Balasundar holds a masters degree - M.A in Sociology from Mysore University, India. He has also done a course on Psychological Counseling.

 

Ramakant Kar | Ashtanga Vinyasa Instructor
Ramakant is a Certified Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Teacher from the Mandala Ashtanga Yogashala, Mysore, India. He has been practicising Yoga since his childhood. Since 2004, he is part of the Shreyas team and handles Group as well as Private Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga sessions. He was instrumental in bringing out the Ashtanga Vinyasa series of Yoga booklets at Shreyas.

 

Rita Boro | Hatha Yoga Instructor
Rita is a Sivananda Yoga Trained Teacher and has been teaching Hatha Yoga at Shreyas since 2010. She has been a practitioner of Yoga since 10 years. She also manages our organic garden.

 

Manikanta | Hatha Yoga Instructor
Manikanta is a Certified Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Teacher from the Mandala Ashtanga Yogashala, Mysore, India. He has also learnt Hatha and Power Yoga and has been practicing Yoga since 5 years. He has been teaching Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga at Shreyas since 2010. He is also a trained Ayurvedic and Rejuvenation Massage Therapist.

 

Rucha Sukhramani | Meditation and Yoga instructor

 

Rucha has done her Bachelors in Physical Education with a major in Yoga from LNIPE, Gwalior, India in 1996, and then furthered her studies of Hatha Yoga and Yoga Therapy from Sri Vivekananda Yoga Anusandana (SVYASA), Bangalore in 1996. She maintains a dedicated practice and continues to study Hatha Yoga, spiritual processes and Indian scriptures like Bhagavad Gita under the guidance of her spiritual teacher, Sri Shankar Narayan. Since the inception in 2004, she is part of Shreyas and was instrumental in setting up the Yoga and Wellness team. She designs and facilitates instructional Hatha Yoga, Pranayama, Yoga Nidra, Trataka and Meditation sessions. She is also trained in Yoga therapy and counsels the guests in adopting appropriate lifestyle changes. Earlier to her stint at Shreyas, she was a responsible for setting up the Yoga Center in Manipal Hospital, in Bangalore, India. She worked there as a therapist, teaching Asanas, Pranayama and Meditation techniques for managing and preventing ailments like Asthma, Diabetes, Hypertension, Backache, Arthritis etc.

    "Best yoga retreat place ever"
    "Beautiful and relaxing ambience. Outstanding room service (they cleaned the room twice a day). The food is oustanding with its taste, the variety of what is served and the fact that they have a menu on the table for each meal they serve (so you can see in advance what you will be served) I could feel that all of the people who works in the place are genuin and really care for your from their heart ! The staff practise both yoga and meditation once a day........so if you want to come to a place that I feel is really welcoming, genuin, hospital and really cares for it´s guest, then this is the place you should visit."     "THE Yoga Sanctuary in India to return to"
    "I have lost count how many times I have now visited Shreyas, as each new visit rewards with greater finesse and well-being. The long serving staff here are exceptional whether it is the teachers, the servers, the front office who combine to treat one as a most honoured guest. The food is exceptional.The cottages are very comfortable. The gardens are a delight. On my most recent visit the new spa/Ayurveda centre was in the finishing stages and I cannot wait to go back to experience this superb new facility to be overseen by excellent doctors with many decades of expert practice.     "Simply magical"
    "No words can describe the magic that is Shreyas. From the moment you step foot in this heavenly retreat, to the moment you (reluctantly) leave, Shreyas and the people there do everything to make sure that your stay is of utmost bliss. I have been to many retreats, detoxes and clinics around the world, and it is with objectivity that I say that Shreyas really stands out. In Shreyas, it's not only the main experience and feel, but also the little touches. Everything is thoroughly thought of, to make sure that one has everything they may need during their stay (they even anticipate things before you think about them!) As part of my experience, I tried the Silent Retreat option, which is definitely worth trying there. The staff all come together to make sure there is no need for you to speak, with clever means such as a necklace with a sign that denotes your take of silence, daily notepads with pencils, and a white board outside your room where you can write down any questions or needs you may have. Everyone in Shreyas is so perceptive and attuned to you and the environment, that with only a simple nod or gesture one can find themselves peacefully communicating, allowing one to feel as if they are in a cocoon of peace and tranquillity throughout their stay. There are so many experiences in Shreyas that are worth highlighting, from the invaluable twice daily yoga sessions, to the insightful group meditations, enlightened private meditations, superb massages (the chocolate scrub well worth trying!), introspective meditation walks through the stunning gardens, delectable meals (I took the restricted calorie option and did not find myself wanting at any point), attentive table service and beautiful dining setting, wonderful tent cottage room with understated elegance, and last but not least the magical tree house, where I spent late mornings or afternoons reading, reflecting and relaxing! I left Shreyas physically stronger and leaner, but even better, with a silent mind and a fuller heart. This is a place that I certainly plan to return to, and already very much look forward to it."     "Shreyas Yoga Retreat"
    I have been to Shreyas twice now. I enjoyed it both times. The food is vegetarian there is no alcohol served. Its definitely US pricing for the stay though they do throw in the 2 yoga classes as well as one meditation class a day. My first visit was in the winter & the resort was completely sold out. I had a great time since I met a 7 other women from other parts of the world. I enjoyed the food which was delicious inventive everyday. My second visit was in July with a friend from London. We enjoyed the experience tremendously but found the cuisine not as creative as I had found last time. There were only two other sets of guests & they seemed to be on lots of dietary restrictions.....& perhaps that was the reason for our kind of boring meals. From Tripadvisor
