Course description

The Yoga Retreat packages are carefully structured to allow you to experience not just the physical aspects of Yoga but also various Pranayama,Yogic Kriyas, Yoga Nidra, Sound meditation and Chakrashuddhi and Trataka. Added to this are some rejuvenating massages and the chance to practice Karma Yoga by serving a meal to the children of the local orphanage.

Shreyas Retreat is situated on the outskirts of Bangalore near Nelamangala. There are many historical and spiritual sites in the surrounding areas. The stress of urban living lives its imprint on each of us, the chaotic noise makes it difficult for us to hear our inner voice; at Shreyas we give you an oasis of calm making it easier to relax and connect with your true self. From the moment you drive through our gates you are surrounded by nature and will begin to feel its restorative effects. Shreyas is a seamless blend of the modern and the timeless, luxury and simplicity, indulgence and enlightenment. The private, serene and “simply” luxurious accommodation has been structured to make the guest feel like they are living in the middle of nature. The architecture and interiors are a confluence of traditional and the modern – tiled roofs, antique doorways and stone pillars give way to contemporary interiors and state of the art facilities.

Food

The meals during Silent retreat are also specially customized and prepared with ingredients that are known to calm the mind and are easy to digest. The ingredients for the meals are freshly hand-picked from our organic vegetable and herb gardens, and all preparations are light and nutritious. According to Ayurveda, self-imposed mouna (silent) during eating greatly aids digestion and improves overall health.

How to get there

By Air: Flights to Bangalore are available from the US, Europe and from all major Indian cities. The newly opened Bengaluru International Airport is one hour away from Shreyas and is a beautiful drive through the countryside; the road by-passes the Bangalore and its chaotic traffic. Airlines: Air France, British Airways, Gulf Air, Jetstar Asia Airways, KLM, Lufthansa, Malaysian Airlines, Royal Nepal Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Emirates & Sri Lankan Airlines and others. By Road: From Mysore, Belur, Halebid, Hampi, Bangalore. (35km from the city centre). By Train: To Bangalore, followed by a 1 hour drive.

Balasundar Iyer | Head – Yoga & Spiritual / Holistic Counseling / Meditation
Balasundar comes from an ashram background. He has spent the last 18 years learning, practicing and teaching Yoga and Meditation under many adepts and masters. He has conducted classes, courses, retreats and workshops in Yoga and Meditation for students, young adults, families and corporate sector. He has taught Yoga at many local and international schools in Bangalore and Hyderabad. He designs and facilitates instructional Hatha Yoga, Pranayama, Yoga Nidra, Trataka and Meditation sessions. He is also trained to counsel the guests in adopting appropriate lifestyle changes. Balasundar holds a masters degree - M.A in Sociology from Mysore University, India. He has also done a course on Psychological Counseling.

 

Ramakant Kar | Ashtanga Vinyasa Instructor
Ramakant is a Certified Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Teacher from the Mandala Ashtanga Yogashala, Mysore, India. He has been practicising Yoga since his childhood. Since 2004, he is part of the Shreyas team and handles Group as well as Private Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga sessions. He was instrumental in bringing out the Ashtanga Vinyasa series of Yoga booklets at Shreyas.

 

Rita Boro | Hatha Yoga Instructor
Rita is a Sivananda Yoga Trained Teacher and has been teaching Hatha Yoga at Shreyas since 2010. She has been a practitioner of Yoga since 10 years. She also manages our organic garden.

 

Manikanta | Hatha Yoga Instructor
Manikanta is a Certified Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Teacher from the Mandala Ashtanga Yogashala, Mysore, India. He has also learnt Hatha and Power Yoga and has been practicing Yoga since 5 years. He has been teaching Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga at Shreyas since 2010. He is also a trained Ayurvedic and Rejuvenation Massage Therapist.

 

Rucha Sukhramani | Meditation and Yoga instructor

 

Rucha has done her Bachelors in Physical Education with a major in Yoga from LNIPE, Gwalior, India in 1996, and then furthered her studies of Hatha Yoga and Yoga Therapy from Sri Vivekananda Yoga Anusandana (SVYASA), Bangalore in 1996. She maintains a dedicated practice and continues to study Hatha Yoga, spiritual processes and Indian scriptures like Bhagavad Gita under the guidance of her spiritual teacher, Sri Shankar Narayan. Since the inception in 2004, she is part of Shreyas and was instrumental in setting up the Yoga and Wellness team. She designs and facilitates instructional Hatha Yoga, Pranayama, Yoga Nidra, Trataka and Meditation sessions. She is also trained in Yoga therapy and counsels the guests in adopting appropriate lifestyle changes. Earlier to her stint at Shreyas, she was a responsible for setting up the Yoga Center in Manipal Hospital, in Bangalore, India. She worked there as a therapist, teaching Asanas, Pranayama and Meditation techniques for managing and preventing ailments like Asthma, Diabetes, Hypertension, Backache, Arthritis etc.

    Shreyas exceeded expectations in every way. It magically combined the quality of a high end resort with the integrity of a wellness destination. The attention to detail and design was sublime and the yoga was inspirational. That is quite a feat. For me, each day after morning yoga and meditation, my hours became a choice between a discreet poolside relax, a solitary day of book reading on my bungalow porch or a relaxing walk around the lovely grounds. And... there was always the option of a spa treatment. Those I booked were wonderful. Also, the grounds were so interesting with walking paths and a thriving organic garden whose bounty featured in the ingredients of each meal. This range is what made Shreyas such a special place. I could choose to engage or enjoy quiet - each day - as I gradually unravelled from City Life and The City Ratrace. I did meet some lovely people over the meals and each one raved about their personal connection with the place. Daily, personal yoga lessons, intense detox, or Ayurvedic treatments comprised other guests' itineraries. I was happy to just decompress and enjoy the group yoga and meditation sessions. The meals were wonderful. I recommend being very clear about your meal preferences during check in. They seem to be able to accommodate a wide range of requirements. I chose a bungalow which was perfect for me. You can choose how close or far you'd like to be from the main walkway and pool. I chose very close to the pool so I could maintain a strong wifi connection. Whatever you choose, each bungalow offers complete privacy because they are staggered along a path meaning no one is too close to another. All in all, I plan to return to Shreyas and have recommended it to many friends. It's a very special place. From Trip Advisor

    "It is a quiet and peaceful. Place to relax. It is a luxurious and clean place. It has a serene environment. It offers Yoga classes and meditation s sessions.. Vegetarian. Food is excellent though a bit spicy.. Ayurveda and spa are very good and clean place. The staff are all. Excellent. Everyone is well trained to receive and help guests. Room - Poolside, for two - as expected for an international standard of 5 star accommodation rather than the often accepted slightly lower standard for certain parts of Asia.     I stayed at Shreyas Yoga Retreat for 15 days. It was an extraordinary experience. I learned so much about breathing, meditation and a healthy lifestyle. My yoga improved greatly. The spa was exceptional. I did the Ayurveda rejuvenation package. The staff here has filled me with knowledge. They are kind and welcoming and have given me great memories that will last a lifetime. In addition, the food is excellent. Going to the orphanage was also a rewarding experience. I loved the kids and asked to go back which I was able to do. I want to say thank you to the staff.     "Mr Ramakanth, Mr Manikanth & team are excellent. The service levels are fantastic. I have not stayed here but my aunt has been a guest here and she has enjoyed the experience totally.     "Wonderful relaxing retreat"
    "We loved our 5 night stay at Shreyas. We went for the yoga retreat package and enjoyed daily yoga and meditation session, both in groups and private sessions. The massage treatments were very good and we felt revitalised and energised after this short trip. The food was really good, every meal was different and the food creative and delicious. I am not a vegetarian but didn't miss meat at all. The staff were friendly, service was fab and the support given to learn more about yoga and yogic live-style could not be faulted.
