Yoga will give you the opportunity to enjoy this week without breaking your body. We'll stretch and warm you up for the ride in the mornings and take care of your happily exhausted bodies at the end of the day with a wonderful restorative and relaxing session. A happy week. Two yoga sessions, movement in the morning and restorative in the evening, sandwich a daylong surfing session. Sun, waves and excitement at the beach, good food, lush gardens and lazy hammocks back home. All the good feelings and smiles of an Algarve holiday plus quality yoga lessons to support the healing, strength and flexibility of the body. If you like to be physical and train your body (or want to start doing so) or if you are simply looking to throw some beach & waves at your yearly yoga retreat, this week will be unforgettable. Last but not least: we keep getting raging reviews of our associates, Future Surf School. Serious, attentive and trustworthy instructors will guide your in your first steps onto a surfboard, you are in good hands with them!

About the place

Life is the way it is and no matter how much we protect ourselves from them rainy days, they are bound to come. Low energy, weak health, troubling relationships, injuries, accidents, economic unrest, the loss of youth or the loss of a loved one are only some of the difficulties that we encounter along the way.We fight all this the best we can but there comes a time when one needs to drop down the anchor and take a week to breathe, heal and reassess. To sleep and read and have silent walks. Eat healthily, rest well and have a relaxed look at one’s life with a bit of distance and perspective. The two daily therapeutic yoga sessions (a combination of mindfulness, breath, restorative and loving-kindness meditation techniques) give a realistic but also empowering support to this healing process, providing you with an ample array of tools so that you can take charge of your healing process. If you need to heal and want to feel cared for in a wholesome, conscious environment, this week is for you. The resort consists of 9 spacious rooms, all with en suite bathroom. Vale da Lama is a solar passive house, where temperature is controlled without any use of electricity, only by sunlight and firewood. Vale da Lama is a 20 minute walk to the coast or a 40 minute walk to Meia Praia beach.

Food

Our lovely cooks provide the vegetarian meals with fresh vegetables and herbs from the garden. Most food is produced on the farm, organic and seasonal. Other products are mainly from local producers.

Growing up in an internal world where questioning was driving, I became an observer of human behavior, my own and those of my surroundings. I tried to understand why we judge so hard, talk bad about each other to only later pretend that we did not. Why what was said was not read in the expression of our eyes. I spent most of my early childhood alone, or maybe just lonely, enhancing my role like an observer. My first teachers in this life were my parents. two extraordinary ordinary folks who loved and still love me fiercely, they taught me my most valuable lesson; that Love can exist without boundaries, it can be unconditional. I did my first meditation retreat when I was 22 and I understood that I was not alone in my pain, that I was ultimately responsible for my own happiness. Many years later, I have chewed, swallowed and occasionally spit out many teachings and ideas but I am still fascinated by what, why and how we do it and what happens next. Life, is an open ended proposal that just keeps expanding as my awareness grows. Endlessly.

I truly don't know and that is ok. But in the not knowing, in the uncompromising acceptance of uncertainty, there is space, space for surprises, for love and wisdom and space for me to grow and become whoever I need to be to meet the moment, regardless of who I was before. I am forever grateful to all those who are inspiring me to take this journey, teachers and masters from now and before, and to the everyday life heroes that silently put down a stone at a time on the road to love but I have always felt that it was my business to solve the riddle of life. And so I have developed a strong sense of responsibility and self-reliance in my practice and my spiritual path and I suggest you do too, for you know yourself best and you are your best friend. May we inspire each other to be love and to be free.

The location was amazing – beautiful wooded areas for camping and yoga practice. Kristy was a perfect host for the weekend. She made it a welcoming space for everyone, adjusted the schedule as the group required, created a caring, community environment for all and cooked tasty food to suit the needs of the individuals and group. Would highly recommend to anyone who would like a non-traditional yoga retreat which focuses on nature and people rather than on luxury accommodations. (If you like sleeping in a tent – which I do! – it feels luxurious anyway.) from Jewel of Yoga Testimonial Page

Everything! I have never been on a yoga retreat and am a complete beginner. This holiday was much more than I expected and Kristy is a wonderful teacher/cook/organiser etc. The group gelled really well. It was like I already knew them. Kristy helped me, at a level that I understood, when and where appropriate. A real holiday to cherish in my memories. Doing yoga and mediation in different locations around the site worked brilliantly for me. I especially loved lying in the long grass, with a beautiful sky above and warm sun on my face, for one of the meditations. from Jewel of Yoga Testimonial Page

Kristy has been teaching Yoga to a client that I support with Autistic Spectrum Disorders. There is a real sensitivity that Kristy puts across in such simple down to earth ways, giving clear instructions and positive encouragement, adapting her teaching to the needs of the individual. My Client looks forward to the private one to one class and is comfortable with Kristy, following her instructions and maintaining focus which is in part due to her teaching abilities. The class helps to maintain flexibility and can be deeply relaxing and calming. I would not hesitate in recommending her to others. from Jewel of Yoga Testimonial Page

Kristy Young is the most amazing Yoga teacher I have ever had the good fortune to meet. Our clients ( with Learning Disabilities) have been able to complete their Beginners Level and are progressing well in Intermediate all due to Kristy's patience, enthusiasm, care and attention. We are hugely indebted to her as each client has improved their co-ordination skills, balance, and core strength. They have also learnt a very important lesson in relaxation , which can be witness (and heard!) at the end of the session ! Kristy is undergoing training in working with clients with Learning disabilities but is a natural. Thank you Kristy for being such an amazing mentor. from Facebook Page

This class is so much more than a series of postures. Kristy facilitates a deep exploration of the self through inward focus and correct breathing as well as practising the well known yoga asanas. Kristy is able to adapt her teaching to each person's ability and provide each with a unique and tailored personal experience within the class. She teaches from the heart. from Facebook Page
