Course description

“Yoga begins with listening. When we listen, we are giving space to what is. We are allowing other people to be what they are, and we are sanctioning our own bodies and our minds to fully manifest. Yoga also begins in the present moment” ~ Richard Freeman, The Mirror of Yoga A journey into the inner senses to uncover our own physical and subtle mind-body mapping, bringing to our consciousness the way we inhabit in our environment and respond to elements and people around us. We will unearth the treasure trove of our innate healing through breath, movement, bodywork, meditation and self inquiry. This will be 2 x 50 hours immersion for yoga practitioners, bodyworkers, movers, dancers, coaches, caregivers... anyone who is looking to understand the pathways of connectivity between the body, mind and spirit. The embodiment approach in this immersion will shine a light on our habitual but sometimes unconscious neurological patterning that manifest into how we breath, our holding gait, and our reactivity to circumstances. These are manifested through pre-dispositions, deep seated patterns, and years of conditioning. Bringing together mindfulness based techniques with somatic tools, we can gain more clarity into our own emotions and behaviour as an embodied biological process, this will enable us to live and move with greater ease and grace. Experience the functions of embodiment through movement, breathwork, yoga therapy applications, traditional Hatha Yoga practices, visualisations, vocalisations, self inquiry and bodywork. Be EMPOWERED to access your own transformation and healing. You will also be able to apply these tools in teaching yoga or movement, self-care, or in offering bodywork to support your clients and your loved ones. When we explore from within through a sensory rather than cognitive approach, our mind can de-clutter and re-wire towards a moment-to-moment presence in wellness. This work promotes wellness and self-care through a body-centred, sensory approach to learning. It focuses on the premise that the body is shaped by the mind, and that the mind can be reshaped by the body (neuroplasticity) - vis-à-vis the nervous system - to effect body chemistry, digestion, immune system and energy levels. This is not a one-size-fits-all go-to approach. It is work for the curious, the inquisitive and the courageous. What is it like to let go of old beliefs that do not serve, to completely embody our true essence as a living spirit, to be a human-BEING instead of a human-DOING?

Daphne Chua
Daphne’s journey with yoga first started as a sanctuary away from the hectic corporate life almost 2 decades ago. In 2008, she traded in her business suit and found herself immersed in wanderlust, uncovering the depth of Yoga as a practice, a lifestyle, a means of sharing her passion with others, and most importantly a lifelong study in the art of living. Daphne has studied with teachers from east and west, blending esoteric Eastern philosophies with western scientific approaches in anatomy and physiology. Some of her biggest inspirations have come from Richard Freeman – who has had a deep impact on the way she sees Yoga as a profound embodiment practice for the body, mind, spirit - as well as Donna Farhi, Tom Meyers, and Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen (Body Mind Centering®). In recent years, she began a deeper quest into the study of neuroscience, somatic movement, combined with the holistic framework of Yoga Therapy tools to delve deeper into the connection between mind and body through subtle practices. She uses an inquiry-based, body-sensing approach to bring about greater transformation and healing into the way we relate to ourselves and the environment. She has also recently completed her graduate certification in Yoga Therapy. As a bodyworker of various healing modalities, Daphne is trained in the art of Traditional Thai Yoga Massage, Cranial Sacral Therapy, Chi Nei Tsang (Abdominal Detox Massage), Tai Chi Massage and Reiki, in which she infuses into the alchemy of her intuitive bodywork and yoga therapy. Daphne incorporates a heart-centred approach, the sensibilities of alignment, somatic education, functional anatomy, as well as insights into yoga philosophy and inquiry practices within her practice. Her therapy sessions, classes, workshops, and trainings are known to focus on breath and awareness of the mind-body connection. Together with a sense of play and curiosity, she hopes to create a nurturing presence in the body, mind and soul through the embodiment of these teachings. Daphne has completed over than 2,000 hours of teacher trainings and has taught close to 3,000 hours in classes, one-on-one sessions, special needs yoga, workshops, retreats, and teacher trainings. She is a trained yoga therapist, movement educator, bodyworker, Anusara Inspired™ teacher, and a E-RYT500 Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider (YACEP). She started assisting and co-teaching in teacher trainings since 2013, and has been running her own embodiment and inquiry-based therapeutic training modules for the last 3 years. Inspired by a calling to continually deepen her learning and sharing with a wider audience, she created Yoga with Daphne, to provide training and mentorship programs for movement and wellness practitioners, as well as caregivers, with the aim of bringing like-minded people together as a community. She is proficient in both the English and Chinese languages, and teaches embodiment practices through somatic movement, yoga therapeutics, restorative yoga, as well as partner and hands-on work, She also offers one-on-one sessions to people dealing with injuries, conditions, or simply looking for a sense of well-being.
