So you’ve made the wonderful decision to attend EPIC Yoga Festival in Marrakech, June 21-23. Now what? You’ve at least thought about packing (see my other article on tips for this) **[link to the other article here]** and perhaps those pre-trip butterflies are beginning their dance in your tummy. I’ve been there, many times in fact, and I’m going to give you some of my favorite tips on how you can get the most enjoyment out of your time at EPIC Yoga Festival.
First and foremost…
There has never been anyone, in the entire course of history, who has been exactly who you are, and who you are capable of being. You are not only doing yourself a disservice by trying to be someone else, you are doing the world a disservice. Be yourself, be who you want to show the world, be the real, true self that exists deep within you.
Being yourself, the radically authentic version of you, will subconsciously give others the permission to be who they really are, too. You are going to be in a group of like-minded individuals who want to create a life of love – do your part, shine your authentic light. Do this, and you are sure to be blown away by the experience that will manifest.
Being yourself includes, but is not limited to:
- Smiling often
- Laughing loudly so others can hear
- Saying hello to those who pass you by
- Dancing like a fool
- Embracing your imperfections
Another important factor when preparing for EPIC, is to set a goal. My teacher has a saying: “Planning is priceless, plans are useless.” Planning for EPIC is essential. Plan to enjoy your time, to express radical self love and to be your true self, your highest form. You may have a specific goal in mind, perhaps related to a practice you would like to solidify into your daily routine. EPIC is a great situation to use as a launching pad to spring forth into the life you want to live. You will be surrounded by others on a similar path, so take advantage of the opportunity. Form relationships that will help lift you towards the life of your dreams, cultivate friendships that will last a lifetime. Make a conscious effort to say ‘yes’ to new experiences. Drop your expectations and let the magic flow, see where the tide takes you. You never know what value chance encounters might add to your life, leading you to a higher existance.
I recommend you take a look at the schedule of the festival and loosely plan your day. Decide which classes or events are essential for you to attend, and which you can miss if something else comes up. Plan a wonderful experience, but always be open and willing to accept anything better than comes your way. A good mantra for the occasion: “Let this, or something better, manifest.”
Last but certainly not least, rest! As much fun as you will be having, as many classes you will be taking and dances you will be dancing, you need to give your body and mind a chance to recover. Do not underestimate the value of a 20 minute nap in the middle of the day. (Seriously, there is plenty of scientific evidence that points to the extreme and profound benefits associated with the 20 minute power nap.) Get plenty of sleep, drink plenty of water. Prepare your human vehicle for the beautiful journey it will be undertaking. The last thing you want is to run yourself dry on the very first day, and be unable to participate for the rest of the festival. This is a yogic marathon, not a sprint. Dance your heart out, do all the yoga you want, but make sure you schedule time for much needed rest. Enjoy! 🙂
