Always do your research before visiting Mexico. Like a lot of countries, it is very important to exercise caution and common sense. Stick to bottled H2O – and plenty of it. You need to stay hydrated in this hot climate. Bottled water is cheap and everywhere, so stock up and swig frequently. Vacationers in holiday mode often throw good judgement out the window and over-indulge in food and drinks here. Stomach bugs and upset bellies are common when visiting, so try to keep the portion sizes regulated.

In restaurants and bars, tip 10%.

The most important tip for all travel etiquette is – a little mindfulness goes a long way. Take time to learn the most important Spanish words, you’ll use them every day and the locals will appreciate it.

Culture and Etiquette in Mexico

Remember you are coming to their home, so always treat it as if it were your own. Pack any trash you bring, be mindful to not create a disturbance, spread kindness wherever you can.

Mexico has a relaxed approach when it comes to dress. Feel free to wear what you like! Ladies, remember that to avoid unwanted attention, modesty is always a good idea, but you should feel comfortable in shorts and dresses and when at the beach or swimming, in bikinis.

When meeting for the first time, women usually pat eachother on the forearms or shoulders, while men shake hands. Kisses on the cheeks are also suitable.
