Yin Yoga is a calmed yoga style in which you will perform passive postures that are held for 5 min in order to improve flexibility, increasing circulation and restoring a fuller variety of motion.
Based on the concept of Ying and Yang, Yin Yoga was founded in 1970 by Paulie Zink, a martial arts expert, and Taoist yoga teacher. Nowadays it is being taught by Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers across Europe and the Americas.
Fundamentals of this yoga style are the Yin and Yang, opposite and complementary principles in nature as understood in Traditional Chinese Medicine. In the body, the connective tissues like tendons, ligaments, fascia are in, while the more mobile and pliable muscles and blood are Yang. More passive asanas in yoga are considered yin, and more dynamic asanas are Yang because they stimulate the muscles.
Yin Yoga Teacher Trainings are available in paradisiacal places and there are several options of duration. For example a 4 day Yin Yoga training in Florida, 100 hours Teacher Training in Bali, 32 day Yin Yoga Teacher Training in Portugal, or a 200 hours Teacher Training in Thailand. Any of these will include talks and exercises, meditation sessions, Yin Yoga practice and theory, vegan or biological meals and of course a certification.
Yin Yoga Retreats are an excellent option to be immersed in a yoga environment together with other people from different countries but the same vibration, energy and the willingness to become stronger mentally and find inner peace. Most of the retreats are of one-week duration, and options vary from 7 days Yin Yoga Retreat in Palma, or a 6-day retreat in Croatia, to a 6-day retreat in Indonesia, or even a 3-day retreat in Friesland. All of them include accommodation, Yin Yoga classes, workshops, healthy meals, and drinks, and of course some excursions and relaxing hours.
