40ish postures that combine therapeutic and traditional yoga in a specially-heated room (98F and 35% humidity). Each Modo/Moksha class is cardiovascular, and it strengthens, loosens, and tones the muscles. The heat allows for deep, safe stretching and detoxifies the skin, blood and muscles. All levels always welcome…
Frenny Palyniak On a cold, snowy January day in 2008, Frenny tried her first Moksha/Modo class in Edmonton, Alberta. From that day forward it was apparent that the combination of breath, movement and sweat was the perfect formula to keep her body, mind and spirit in harmony. In 2009 she traveled to India to take the Moksha/Modo 500 hour yoga teacher training. The combination of traveling, exploring and practicing yoga became the ideal way to spend vacations away from the day-to-day life of an engineer. By 2013 Frenny completed yoga teacher trainings in Modo Level 2, Modo Flow, Yin, Prenatal, Mindfulness and Power Yoga. She is grateful to learn from the best: Jessica Robertson, Ted Grand, Frank Jude Boccio and Baron Baptiste. She is appreciative to have spent her formative teaching years mentoring under Angela Zawada. Frenny believes that Modo Yoga is a hot yoga practice accessible to all bodies. Her yoga classes combine a playful approach to the asanas while focusing on breath and mindfulness.

Andrew Palyniak
In August 2008 Andrew was challenged by his wife to try hot yoga. He has always enjoyed a good challenge and the thought of yoga in a hot room would make a great experience. Ever since that first hot yoga experience, what first appeared as a challenge soon turned into a passion. In March of 2009 Andrew decided to go to his first yoga teacher training in Kerala, India for Modo Level 1. This was an easy decision. He thought: Travelling to an exotic, tropical location while pursuing and learning yoga was the perfect discourse to his otherwise monotonous and melancholy life. Soon after completing the 500 hour Modo Level 1 Teacher Training, Andrew committed to Modo Level 2 training in Costa Rica in November 2010; Frank Jude Boccio’s Mindfulness Training in Gabriola Island BC in June 2012; Baptiste Power Yoga Level 1 in The Big Island, Hawaii in March 2013. Between trainings Andrew has continued his personal practice as well as participating in workshops when he can. Andrew finds that the holistic approach of yoga has continually challenged him in new ways, whether physically or mentally. Live to Learn is one of his favourite of the 7 pillars of the Modo community. Be Accessible is another pillar that Andrew aligns closely with since understanding how important it is to stay active while aging and working through injury. Andrew believes that yoga’s multi-facetted dynamic is a great accomplice to help understand living in a challenging world.

Cindy Lee
Cindy’s journey in holistic health started with Modo Yoga teacher training in 1997. Yoga sparked her passion for spirituality and healing which led to studying massage therapy and holistic health in Encinitas, California. She is also the founder and creator of Om Yogassage, a unique synergy of yoga stretches and massage techniques. Cindy believes that through the synergy of nutrition, movement and positive intention we all have the power to heal ourselves. Her approach in life is one of “meeta” or loving kindness, first for self and then for others.

Caitlin Wright
I first stepped onto a yoga mat in 2010 at the moksha/Modo studio in Montreal, Canada. I quickly realized how much I appreciated the routine of challenging my mind and body, while also sweating profusely. I took the practice of yoga to Ghana with me during my two year Peace Corps service, and realized how grounding it was in unfamiliar and challenging times. This deeper understanding and appreciation of the practice led to my doing the Modo Level 1 training in Seattle at the end of 2017. Throughout this process I have been lucky enough to grow and learn at the Modo San Diego studio with Frenny and Andrew Palyniak, where I teach now. I am loving the experience of bringing calm, presence and stillness to people of all walks of life, while also being part of a wonderful and inspiring community. On my free time, I love hiking, camping, traveling, reading and trying any new exciting experiences.

Lauren McEwen - While living in bustling New York City throughout my 20s, I needed respite from the fast paced and busy lifestyle that I was leading. The universe (or maybe it was the cold?) led me to the hot room at Modo Yoga in Brooklyn. The studio became my sanctuary and the practice became my saving grace. Slowly, my focus, and in effect, my life, began to shift until a desire welled within me to share this inspiring practice with other individuals looking for the mind, body and soul healing that it offers. Jump ahead to the fall of 2017, and I was eagerly entering into the transformational Modo Yoga teacher training in Seattle where I learned the ins and outs of each posture’s physical, emotional and mental benefits. Shortly thereafter, I relocated to California where I’ve found my sangha and my new haven at Modo Yoga San Diego. My goal is to create a space where all people feel welcome, peaceful and perfect – because we all are just that.
